Recently, Yahoo! News' Liz Goodwin, a writer for The Lookout, has posted an article titled, "First man 'functionally cured' of HIV." In it, Goodwin talks about Timothy Ray Brown (pictured right) who was diagnosed with both leukemia and HIV. Back in 2007, however, he received a bone marrow stem cell transplant in Germany. The transplant had reportedly come from another man that is immune to HIV. In the article, his doctor is quoted as saying, "He has no replicating virus and he isn't taking any medication. And he will now probably never have any problems with HIV." Goodwin goes on to state that the procedure that Brown underwent is very dangerous, and couldn't possibly be applied to every case of HIV worldwide.
