Yesterday on Yahoo! News an article was posted Adam Clark Estes of The Atlantic Wire. In his article, Estes discussed the discovery of an Android application that does more than track your location. The application called CarrierIQ, which is on most Android, BlackBerry, and Nokia phones, runs in the background and gathers user information, including the content of text messages. Trevor Eckhart, an Android developer, has been investigating CarrierIQ and their questionable application. This application raises serious privacy concerns, especially considering the fact that users cannot stop CarrierIQ from gathering their information. Who here has the most responsibility toward the consumer? CarrierIQ, your cell phone carrier, and your phone manufacturer all have the opportunity and responsibility to protect your privacy. Estes' article goes into much more detail about CarrierIQ and privacy concerns. Be sure to click on the link below to read the rest of his article.
