The 1% Shouldn't Pay Taxes According to Harry Binswanger

Credit: free.clipartof.com
Tuesday on Yahoo! Finance, The Daily Ticker's Morgan Korn posted an article and video about the recent controversial statements of one Harry Binswanger. This former college professor sat down with two individuals from The Daily Ticker, including Aaron Task and Henry Blodget.

According to the article and video, it seems that Binswanger firmly believes that the 99% are indebted to 1%. The 99% should give back to the 1% for "their enormous contributions to our standard of living." Also, Binswanger believes that the 1% should therefore not be punished by having to pay taxes. They should be exempt.

Task and Blodget further question Harry Binswanger's belief in their Yahoo! Finance video. Be sure to click on the link below to read Morgan Korn's article and to watch The Daily Ticker's video.

Last week, Erin Barry with Yahoo! Finance posted an article about a popular up and coming website Rap Genius. The article contained a video of one of the site's co-founders, Ilan Zechory, explaining what their site is all about.

According to the article, the site began back in 2009 as a Wikipedia for hip-hop. Nowadays, they cover more than just the hip-hop genre and have branched out to books, poems, and more. The site gives users the opportunity to annotate portions of text from all of these areas. Famous artists have even begun to explain parts of their own songs through these annotations.

The site has continued to garner more attention. For example, venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz recently invested $15 million into Rap Genius.

Netflix Stock Drops as Prices Rise

Credit: Netflix
Found On: www.technewsdaily.com
Today on Yahoo! Finance an article from The New York Times writer Brian Stelter was posted pertaining to Netflix. According to Stelter, as Netflix's price hike took place this month the stock in the company dropped around 15%. The price hike which was announced earlier this summer involved the separation of streaming and DVD options. In order for a customer to have both they would have to pay $8 for each.

Along with their drop in stock, they have also seen a drop in customers as Netflix members cancel their accounts. On a brighter side, however, the company's chief executive, Reed Hastings, has claimed that the extra revenue for the company will help with their research and development as well as their content availability for streaming. $100 Million ATM Receipt Found in New York

Credit: Dealbreaker.com
Thursday on Yahoo! Finance, Mike Krumboltz posted an article about an ATM receipt that was found in New York recently. The receipt wasn't just any normal ATM receipt you may come across. This receipt had an available balance of $99,864,731.94. The receipt, according to Krumboltz' article, was found at a bank in East Hampton Village. The owner of the receipt is unknown, but, as the article mentions, it is unwise to keep such a large sum of money in a savings account since they are only guaranteed up to $250,000. Be sure to click on the link below to read the rest of Krumboltz' article.

Yesterday on Yahoo! Finance, Al Lewis posted an article about a house in Idaho that's infested with garter snakes. The harmless snakes are everywhere from the yard outside to the floors inside. Apparently it's hard to sell a house that is also home to an unsettling amount of snakes, therefore Chase Bank is having to foreclose on the property. There is currently a video on YouTube about the house and the family that used to live there. Be sure to click on the links below to watch the YouTube video and to read Al Lewis' entire article.

Happy 10th Birthday to the Apple Store!

Credit: Apple
Today on Yahoo! Finance, The Daily Ticker, article by Peter Gorenstein, discusses the Apple Store's success after opening 10 years ago. In 2001, Apple opened their first two stores, one in Tysons Corner, Virginia and the other in Glendale, California. Today, while other electronics retailers are seeing declines in their sales, Apple continues to prosper. According to Gorenstein, based on sales per square foot, the Apple Store's 300 stores and over $9 billion in retail sales last year can put them as the most successful retailer in the world.

Other retail stores aren't fairing as well in recent years. Circuit City closed down their stores two years ago, and Best Buy has not seen any advantage as a result. Gorenstein claims that Best Buy has reported three straight quarters of declining sales. Dell and Microsoft have tried mimicking Apple's approach by opening their own stores, so it'll be interesting to see how well they end up doing, although it's doubted that they will see the kind of success that Apple does.
